Start of a new journey but Wales still plagued by their costly habits of recent years

IT was a familiar result for Wales but a very different performance.

- By STEFFEN THOMAS

Four tries scored but seven conceded with 52 points shipped tells its own story and points to a side who are still trying to climb out of a dark hole.

Last Friday, after naming his team to take on Argentina, new head coach Steve Tandy was asked by a journalist what he thought the Welsh public expected from his team.

"I think they just want something they can feel proud of and to have a game where they can see what we are trying to build," said Tandy.

"They want to see players who are passionate, and desperate to perform for the country."

Those in attendance could certainly see what Wales are trying to build and this looks like a team who want to express themselves with ball in hand but ultimately the same issues which plagued the second Warren Gatland era remain.

This is a Wales side who are at the start of a new journey under Tandy and it was always going to take a long time to turn this side around.

Patience is required.

Wales looked very vulnerable when Argentina succeeded in getting up a head of steam, and defence guru Tandy will not be happy with the 30 tackles his side missed.

Typically when a new head coach is appointed to turn around the fortunes of a struggling team the first thing he must do is turn his side into a difficult one to beat.
