A BUTCHER has been forced to close after 18 years on a Gwynedd high street.

Cig Porthmadog Meats (pictured) has been a mainstay on the town's main shopping street for nearly 20 years.

But this week, Geraint Pritchard announced they would be closing. He blamed the high costs of running the business - with both the price of meat and other costs rising.

He told The Daily Post he had been on the high street for 18 years. Geraint said he was 'truly sorry' that they would not be able to fulfil Christmas orders.

On Facebook, he said: "Unfortunately, and with a very heavy heart, Cig Porthmadog is closed.
