Rescuers brave waist-high snow as multiple people caught out in mountains

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation [OVMRO] was called to two incidents in quick succession on Sunday as snow blanketed the region.

A video released by the team (a still pictured inset) showed the dreadful conditions volunteers had to deal with as they came to the rescue of walkers.

OVMRO has now urged people to check if they have the correct equipment, if they are fit and have enough experience, and know the weather and route, before setting off.

An OVMRO statement said: “The team was called out on Sunday evening for a well equipped walker who had become disoriented on the summit of Y Garn and they had taken shelter in the summit cairn.

“As 5 team members stepped out of base, a second call came for a pair of walkers on the summit of Moel Sia-bod, one of whom had become exhausted in the winter conditions, so 3 of the group headed for them instead.
