A MAN was reported missing after spending a night on one of the best-known beaches in Wales, A large search party was organised on Anglesey at the start of a busy weekend for lifeboat crews as strong offshore winds caused multiple problems for water-users.

- BY ANDREW FORGRAVE

Three Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRT), from Bangor, Rhosneigr and Llandwrog, were called to Traeth Llanddwyn beach near Newborough on Saturday morning. They were later joined by police officers and Trearddur Bay's lifeboat.

Concerns had been raised by family members when they lost touch with a man who'd arrived at the beach the previous day. They had been tracking his mobile phone but had lost his signal by around 8.30pm on Friday.

Shortly after arriving at 8.11am on Saturday, the rescue teams found the missing man’s vehicle at Traeth Llanddwyn’s main car park.

When a half-kilometre search of the surrounding beach and forest drew a blank, they turned their attention to Ynys Llanddwyn.
