Readers reject 'soft touch' council approach to campervan troubles

Many residents, fed up with blocked roads and litter, doubt the council's polite requests will work.

As reported frequently in the Daily Post in recent years, most recently yesterday, frustrations have grown over what locals see as a lack of strict enforcement, with laybys, seafronts, and scenic spots across North Wales being overrun by motorhome owners avoiding paid campsites.

Cyngor Gwynedd’s designated overnight “arosfan” sites - charging £16.50 a night - haven't solved the problem. In Llanberis, locals say the eight-bay site at Y Glyn is often ignored, with dozens of campervans parking for free nearby instead.

Similar issues have hit Dinas Dinlle beachfront near Caernarfon airport, where overnight parking is banned, and Bala, where overcrowded lakeside car parks last month led to driveways, access points, and bus turning circles being blocked.
