PLEA AS RED FLARE SPARKS BIG SEARCH

A RED flare off the North Wales coast sparked a search over the weekend.

Flare casings found on coastline

Calls were received on Saturday night of a distress flare near the The Duke of Lancaster ‘ghost ship’ at Llanerch Y Mor.

This saw the Flint Coastguard rescue team and the RNLI scrambled. They undertook sea and shoreline searches over fears there was someone in trouble in a vessel in the area.

But no one was found and a flare casing was later discovered on the shoreline, with the rescue stood down.

Flint Coastguard said: “Tasked to reports of a red flare sighting near The Duke of Lancaster Ship, Llanerch Y Mor. Coastguard Rescue Officers on scene with first informant and witnesses, located a discarded used red flare and orange smoke casings.
