Patient's bite scarred ambulance worker in assault during transfer

AN AMBULANCE worker was left with a permanent scar after being bitten by a patient.

Sarah Prendergast had been resisting while being transferred from a mental health unit when the assault took place in an ambulance. Her victim has a permanent, mouth-shaped scar, which turns purple when cold, and she eventually gave up her job.

Prendergast, 28, of East Parade, Rhyl, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm against Joanne Whelan outside Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

A judge yesterday gave the defendant an eight-month jail term suspended for 12 months.
