One seriously hurt amid second day of A55 traffic chaos

FOUR people have been taken to hospital after a crash shut a stretch of the A55 in Flintshire yesterday morning. One was said to be in a “serious” condition.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics, fire crews and an air ambulance, attended the scene of the collision, between J32 Holywell and junction 33 Northop, which sparked major delays in both directions.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (September 4) at approximately 11.13am, to reports of a road traffic collision on the A55 expressway, near junction 33 of the eastbound carriageway.

“We sent two emergency ambulances, an operations manager and a Cymru High Acuity Response Unit to the scene.

“Advanced critical care support was delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity helicopter. Four patients were conveyed to hospital by road for further treatment.”
