Man, 87, died after being pushed to the floor at care home

AN 87-year-old man with dementia died in hospital after being pushed to the chest by another resident at a care home and falling to the floor, an inquest heard.
Cecil Edwards was pushed over by a resident at the Llangollen Fechan nursing home in 2022. A police investigation was launched, which considered whether the incident could be “murder or manslaughter” the inquest heard.
However, it was decided the act “wasn't consciously undertaken”, and a conclusion of misadventure was reached by a coroner.
During the hearing, the then manager of the home was quizzed by the coroner about a “retrospective entry” in the care home daily notes, four days after the death of Mr Edwards.
Another staff member had also made claims and coroner John Gittins told Alyson Price the inference was that following the death and a police investigation being launched “you were looking to manipulate the records available particularly around staff training”.
She told the Ruthin hearing it was an ongoing case for Social Care Wales. But Miss Price insisted: “I have nothing to hide. I have done this job 24 years. I had no reason to ask them to falsify training certificates.”
She said staff were at the required level. “We are human-beings, things happen, you have to be open and honest,” Miss Price said.
