Businesses say roadworks hitting trade with no traffic in village and deliveries disrupted

'LIKE LOCKDOWN ALL OVER AGAIN'

Villagers say roadworks on the B4401 High Street In Llandrillo, main, are proving disruptive. Above left, a map of the diversion route. Above right, the Berwyn Restaurant is one of the businesses to have complained

FURIOUS villagers in Denbighshire have hit out at roadworks that have left them partly cut off for four months.

Businesses in Llandrillo complain of lost custom with the village now so quiet it is said to resemble life in Covid lockdowns.

Locals and visitors face hour-long round trips to and from Corwen, a journey that previously took 12-14 minutes. Bus services have been affected, parents worry about school journeys and everyone has complained of confusing signage.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is spending £4.5m upgrading around 13km of water pipes in south Denbighshire. Two weeks before Christmas, contractors moved into Llandrillo and began digging up the B4401, the main road through the village.

Residents expected the work to finish in late January but it was delayed by snow, pushing back completion to February 13.

Unaware of the scheme's entirety, some locals were aghast to receive letters last week saying two further B4401 roadworks were now taking place. “What fresh hell is this?” asked a Llandrillo resident when posting a copy of the letter online.
