HCC MARKET UPDATE: SIGNIFICANT PRIME LAMB RISE

THE prime lamb SQQ deadweight average across Great Britain recorded a significant week-on-week price increase following several weeks of price declines.

During the most recent week, the average recorded a 25p/kg increase to stand at 703.9p/kg.

The average now stands above the £7/kg mark once more but remains some 26p/kg below the corresponding week a year earlier.

The number of lambs forward also recorded a notable uplift on the previous week - up by 19% to just shy of 29,000 head (although this is some 4% below year-earlier levels).

The deadweight may have recovered somewhat with the re-balancing of supply-and-demand dynamics, following weeks of depressed numbers coming forward.

Beef deadweight prices dropped during the most recent week as supply levels appear to be ahead of current demand.
