Demolition of old bridge closes part of spectacular trail into Eryri

A NEW footbridge is being built over the Afon Ogwen to replace a crossing that's reached the end of its life.

The work has closed part of a 11-mile multi-user path that runs from Bangor into the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia).

To strengthen it against floods, in recent years sandbags have been placed at base of pillars supporting Pont Sarnau at Bethesda, Gwynedd.

The old bridge will be demolished once a replacement crossing has been built and opened to the public.
