Dalot backs Amorim's handling of United 'bomb squad'

DIOGO DALOT has backed Ruben Amorim's handling of Manchester United's wantaways.

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

Amorim refused to allow the 'bomb squad' members, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, to train with the United first team amid their wish to leave the club.

Rashford has joined Barcelona on a season long loan but the other four players are still at the club, training back in Manchester while the first team is on their preseason tour of the United States.

Amorim dropped Rashford and Garnacho from the squad for the Manchester derby in December and he sanctioned the mid-season loans of Antony and Malacia to Real Betis and PSV Eindhoven.

Sancho has not made a competitive appearance for United since August 2023 and does not have a squad number.

The United head coach has stressed that he is only interested in coaching players who want to be at the club and Dalot feels that Amorim's approach has benefited the squad in the States.

"I think he's really good as a manager of trying to [get] the best out of you," Dalot said.

"He's very clear in his messages that you want to be a part of the team or you cannot be here.
