Walkers urged to stay off line too

WALKERS on Wales' highest mountain are being asked to avoid hiking along its railway track.

Snowdon Mountain Railway (Rheilffordd yr Wyddfa) is warning the practice is both "dangerous and damaging".

More than 600,000 ascend the peak each year, and repairing worn footpaths is an ongoing challenge.

Visitors opting for flatter railway sections also risk causing erosion, potentially putting train passengers in jeopardy.

At the weekend, Snowdon Mountain Railway (SMR) staff were alarmed to spot someone actually cycling down the 4.7-mile track, which often runs parallel to the Llanberis Path.

Heritage steam trips have stopped running for the 2025 season, but diesel trains will continue until November 2, after which winter maintenance gets under way.
