County plans 5.3% council tax rise amid funding 'shortfall'

Gwynedd has published its draft budget and announced its planned council tax increase.The council said the budget is set at a time when "Welsh local authorities continue to face financial challenges". They said the 4.1% increase in the settlement from Welsh Government does not meet the increase in demand for services.

Under the proposals the council will set a total revenue budget of £379,866,050 for 2026/27. This would be funded by £264,009,390 of Welsh Government Grant (a 4.1% increase) and £115,856,660 of Council Tax income.
