DOMINIC SMITH’S first goal for Caernarfon Town ensured the Cofis maintained their two-point lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier with a 1-1 draw at Haverfordwest County.

Richard Davies’ side are now unbeaten in five league matches and a cup tie this season and continue to set the pace in a league that is looking more competitive than in recent seasons.

Although Caernarfon had to settle for another draw with the Bluebirds ~all four league encounters last season went the same way - Smith’s strike took his side's goal tally to 16 for the season so far - six more than Briton Ferry Llansawel and 10 more than last season’s top two teams, The New Saints and Penybont.

Smith tied things up in the 74th minute as he headed home a Sion Bradley corner and two minutes later it took a brave double save from Luc Rees in the home goal to deny Osel Abadaki a potential winner.

Haverfordwest, who had beaten Caernarfon in the end of season playoff to win the final ticket into the Uefa Conference League this summer, took the lead though top scorer Ben Ahmun from the penalty spot in the first half.

Itwas the 33-year-old striker who won the penalty as he drove into the Cofis’ area and forced Phil Mooney into areckless challenge.

He then stepped up and sent Connor Roberts the wrong way to bag his third goal of the season in all competitions.

“Tt was definitely a fair result. They edged it in the second half, but in the first I thought we ‘were excellent,” said Ahmun.

“It’s been a tough start for us, but looking back, we should have won our first two games.
