Water pipe to be shut down for repairs
Daily News
|October 15, 2025
RESIDENTS living in the northern areas of Durban should brace themselves for an interruption of their water supply due to repairs being undertaken on the northern aqueduct pipeline on Tuesday.
The eThekwini Municipality is tackling the war on leaks from municipal pipelines to reduce water losses. The team had found a major leak on the northern aqueduct in the vicinity of Piesang River towards Phoenix 1 and 6 reservoirs.
The team also found three minor leaks at Points C, D, and E on the pipeline, which will also be repaired. However, the municipality stated that to safely execute these activities, the operations teams from the city’s Water Service Directorate will isolate the supply to the northern aqueduct for 27 hours starting at midnight on October 14 until 3am the following day, October 15.
This will also affect businesses in the area. The northern aqueduct supplied areas are:
◆ Aloes
◆ Avoca
◆ Phoenix
◆ Mount Moriah
◆ KwaMashu
◆ Ntuzuma
◆ Inanda
◆ Mzinyathi
