MADLANGA COMMISSION

- GCWALISILE KHANYILE

EXPLOSIVE testimony before the Madlanga Commission has revealed that the Political Killings Task Team's (PKTT) disbandment instruction and the recall of 121 dockets under investigation and in court were allegedly a case of mistaken identity.

Divisional Commissioner for Crime Intelligence, Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, told the commission that when the cases about the December 06, 2024, operations were not found in the PKTT, the focus shifted.

Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu had, on December 31, 2024, written a letter to disband the PKTT immediately.

This was followed by an instruction from suspended Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, to recall all case dockets under the PKTT.

The operations of December 06, 2024, were the arrest of murder-accused businessman Katiso 'KT' Molefe and the search and seizure at the home of attempted murder-accused tenderpreneur, Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.

Khumalo said that after Molefe and Matlala's dockets were not found among the 121 from the PKTT, the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence operations (GCI ops) became the new target.
