Trump's unhinged claims in longest ever union speech

BY MIKEY SMITH Deputy Political Editor DONALD Trump ranted about immigrants, berated his opponents and painted a rosy picture of the US economy in a lengthy State of the Union speech.

The President claimed to Congress: "My fellow Americans, our nation is back - bigger, better, richer and stronger than ever before.

"Tonight, after just one year, I can say with dignity and pride that we have achieved a transformation like no one has ever seen before, and a turnaround for the ages."

He added: "The roaring economy is roaring like never before."

But his claims fell flat with an increasingly sour public view of his administration's handling of the cost of living as millions struggle.
