PM abolishes NHS England to cut bureaucracy and free up more cash for the front line

NHS England will be scrapped to put the health service "back at the heart of government", says Keir Starmer.

The shake-up aims to cut red tape and bring NHS management under the "democratic control" of the Department of Health.

The change will mean thousands of job losses but is intended to free up money and time to slash record waiting lists and deliver for patients.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister said: "I don't see why decisions about £200billion of taxpayer money, on something as fundamental as the NHS, should be taken by an arm's-length body."
