Helena Bonham Carter on 'ingenious' Seven Dials adaptation

- BY MARK JEFFERIES Showbiz Editor

THE twists and turns in the TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's Seven Dials are more than a match for the Queen of Crime, says Helena Bonham Carter.

Firstly, Helena plays Lady Caterham, with her character having been changed from Lord Caterham in the original 1929 novel.

But the star also says show writer Chris Chibnall, the creator of ITV drama Broadchurch, has devised other ingenious shocks for viewers.

Helena says: “The huge psychological complexities attracted me to the job. On top of that, it's Agatha Christie... What Chris Chibnall has done with this adaptation is that he's almost out Agathad' Agatha.

“There were changes to the book with permission from the Christie estate, but it retains the mood and has some ingenious twists.”

In the Netflix series, a practical joke goes horribly wrong at a country house party set in 1925 England, where the most unlikely people unravel a mysterious plot.

Mia McKenna-Bruce stars as Lady Caterham’s daughter Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, who probes the murder plot as an amateur sleuth.
