Take a look back at memorable moments from a turbulent time

- Sue Lee

With global conflicts, royal scandals, high-profile deaths and a pop star in space, 2025 has had some significant moments. Here, Sue Lee looks at a few of the year's biggest stories...

WAR

In February a fiery White House meeting between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump seemed to jeopardise any chance of peace.

Cordial terms were restored but the Ukraine/Russia conflict wore on - though peace talks now seem more hopeful. Ceasefires began and ended in the Israel-Gaza war. The latest, made in October, remains shakily in place despite several breaches.

ROYALS

January brought some good news for the Royal Family, with the Princess of Wales announcing she was in remission from cancer.

But it was the relationship between the former Prince Andrew and the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein that dominated headlines.

Pressure mounted in April with the death of Virginia Giuffre, the most prominent victim of Epstein's abuse.

In August, King Charles officially stripped his brother of his titles.

The long-running Epstein scandal also engulfed Sarah Ferguson in September, when a friendly email emerged from her to him.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan also continued to make headlines. In May, Harry lost his appeal over the level of security he and his family are entitled to in the UK.

A tough year ended with positive news, though, as the King revealed earlier this month that his schedule of treatment for cancer would be reduced in 2026.

MUSIC

The year's biggest music news was in July, when Oasis reunited for a series of huge concerts - after a 16-year hiatus.

In February, Beyonce won her first-ever album of the year award at the Grammys. Charli XCX was the big winner at the Brit Awards, taking home five prizes in March. She later headlined at Glastonbury in June.
