Mirror tries out live tracker for prison leavers MoJ says cuts crime by 20%
MINISTERS have unveiled the biggest expansion of tagging in British history, with thousands of extra domestic abusers, thieves and burglars to be tracked in real time.
Under a £700million probation service plan, everyone released from prison will be put on a tag from the end of the year, and more people on community sentences will be tagged.
I tried out a GPS ankle tag that tracks an offender's location and experienced two clear emotions while wearing it - shame and accountability.
Embarrassment flooded over me as I passed MPs in the corridors of Parliament and travelled on the Tube to a pal's party.
My thoughts spun as I wondered if people were questioning what I had done.
