THE mystery of how Nigel Farage's partner bought a house in his constituency deepened yesterday.

Mr Farage initially said he had bought the house in Clacton, Essex, but later explained that he misspoke and that it was, in fact, his French partner, Laure Ferrari, who had purchased it.

Ms Ferrari paid £44,000 less to buy it than Mr Farage would have. She paid standard stamp duty but the Reform leader, owner of a £3million property empire, would have paid an extra 5%.

There is no mortgage registered on the £885,000 house, indicating a cash purchase.
