Showboat chief lacks substance

He adopted the showboating of his idol Donald Trump, with blaring music and a pyrotechnic catwalk.

But he failed to offer a new policy having spent the summer making empty announcements and stoking anger across the country. The last-minute scramble to move his speech so it was not overshadowed by Keir Starmer’s reshuffle underlined how he did not want his moment stolen.
