Last-gasp sting in the tail sinks Sunderland

PASCAL STRUIJK and Joe Rothwell combined twice, including Leeds' 95th-minute winner, to send Daniel Farke's side two points clear at the top of the Championship.

Leeds 13-game unbeaten league run at Elland Road was in grave danger when Rothwell came on alongside Struijk with just 19 minutes remaining The pair combined and Rothwell delivered the perfect free-kick for Struijk (below, celebrating) to head home the leveller on 78 minutes.

Sunderland's brave resistance was over and Struijk netted a sublime clincher from Rothwell's cross in the final seconds of stoppage time to send the home fans wild.

History could be repeating itself at Elland Road and Leeds recovered from failing in the playoffs in 2009 and 2019 by winning automatic promotion the next season.
