My wife thinks I'm mad and I am just terrified

Radio 1's Greg on his week-long Comic Relief tandem marathon

Greg James thought he had broken a cycle of behaviour after two gruelling Comic Relief challenges - yet he is about to saddle up again.

The DJ said never again after doing five triathlons in five days in 2016 and, two years later, cycling between Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis, and climbing each of them.

But somehow, Radio 1's breakfast DJ found himself signing up for another tough ordeal despite being terrified. His wife, writer Bella Mackie, thinks he is crazy.

Greg, 40, starts a 1,000km tandem cycle ride in Weymouth, Dorset on March 13. He will visit Wales then pedal on to Edinburgh for Red Nose Day's evening of entertainment on March 20.

He said: “Bella thinks I'm a maniac. She doesn't understand why I'd do it again - this sort of challenge would be her worst nightmare.

“These things are mad, great adventures. I think I can do it - but I don't know that I can. I'll give it my everything. Bella will be there at the end with a glass of wine.”
