Landlord's £1.4m web bets gone for good

A WEALTHY landlord who gambled away more than £1.4million in a decade has lost his Court of Appeal bid to recover much of the losses from Betfair.

Lee Gibson, 47, lost the money online between 2009 and 2019, with wagers of up to £20,000 at a time.

He had claimed in the High Court that Betfair knew or should have known that he had a gambling problem, and so should have stopped him.

Mr Gibson was appealing against the High Court ruling last year, by Judge Nigel Bird, that Betfair did not owe him a duty of care.
