JUSTICE FOR JILL

POLICE are being urged to launch a review after we found new evidence linking a ruthless Serbian assassin to the Jill Dando murder case.

- BY TOM PETTIFOR

A van driver said a man he nearly hit after Crimewatch host Jill was shot in 1999 looked like Milorad Ulemek.

It comes after a female witness told us last year that she was certain she had seen Ulemek on the same road.

Veteran BBC correspondent John Simpson, a friend of Jill, 37, said: "There should be a full review of the case."

A KEY witness says the man he saw running close to the Jill Dando murder scene looked like Serbian assassin Milorad Ulemek.

The witness, who does not want to be named, was driving a van nearby shortly after the Crimewatch host, 37, was shot at home on April 26, 1999.

He told police two days later that a man in a dark suit sprinted in front of his Ford Transit without looking in Fulham, South West London.

And after looking at pictures of Ulemek, he told the Daily Mirror: “He does look like the man I saw.”

It comes after a female witness told us last year that she was certain she had seen Ulemek sprinting along the same part of the Fulham Palace Road.

Ulemek, now 57, led a unit of hitmen who targeted opponents of brutal Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic, who died in 2006 while being tried for war crimes.

It was feared Jill had been targeted because she fronted a BBC charity appeal for Kosovan refugees 20 days before she was killed.

The lead barrister in the prosecution of Milosevic has said Ulemek should be investigated over Jill's murder in light of the Mirror's investigation.
