Boost for units sent to tackle prison corruption

REINFORCEMENTS are urgently being drafted in to counter-corruption units following a tide of female prison officers having illicit flings with inmates in their cells.

The Prison Officers' Association says extra investigators are being sent to tackle a soaring number of guards having affairs with crooks behind bars.

And increased anti-corruption training has been rolled out at jails after a wave of high-profile arrests and charges of shamed officers.

The POA is calling for extra vetting procedures after it emerged at least 45 female prison officers have been caught since 2021 an average of almost 10 per year. This compares with just nine in total from 2017 to 2020.

A roll call of rogue officers caught for jail cell romps includes ex-Only Fans model Linda de Sousa Abreu filmed having sex with an inmate.

And just this week Rebecca Pinckard, 46, was jailed after she was caught performing a sex act on a lag by her own body cam footage in a supply cupboard at HMP Highpoint in Suffolk in July 2024.
