Brit team hope jet engines can smash world water speed record

A GRANDAD aims to break the world water speed record in a 400mph jet-powered boat built in his garage.

David Aldred, 63, also helped restore Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7, which tragically claimed Donald's life in a crash in 1967.

He hopes his new hydroplane Longbow will beat the current record of 317mph, which was set by Australian Ken Warby in 1978.

David is working with experts including an ex-McLaren engineer on his boat, which will be powered by two jet engines originally designed for the BAC Strikemaster - a British military aircraft.
