HOSPITALS remain under huge pressure as new NHS data shows flu admissions for this time of year remain at their highest recorded levels.

However, in a glimmer of hope, the super-flu surge appears to be slowing, as resident doctors in England remain on strike.

An average of 3,140 flu patients were in hospital every day last week, up 18% on the previous week - but that is lower than the rise the week before, which was 55%.
