I used a bag to clean my oven racks, which had a caustic substance in, but it spilled on my worktop and took the shine off it. Can I do anything? Janet Davies, via email

I take it the worktop is laminate, in which case, clean it, then use a burnishing paste or cream.

Burnishing paste is very fine polish and leaves no scratches but brings back shine. Car polish has a similar effect.

We put self-adhesive stained glass PVC-type rolls on some windows. The sun has burned it brown and we cant get it off. It looks awful. Any ideas? Val Blance, via email
