How Championship striker Romeny ruined giant's qualifying dreams

OLE ROMENY'S only goal in England this season came at the Kassam Stadium in March as he suffered defeat with Oxford against Coventry.

But his third goal in three games for his adopted Indonesia on Thursday night knocked China out of World Cup contention and kept alive his own hopes of a fairytale appearance at the tournament in North America next summer.

Japan have already qualified from Group C in Asia, while Australia and Saudi Arabia meet on Tuesday in Jeddah to decide the other automatic spot. But Romeny, who moved to the Championship in January from Utrecht in his native Holland, has helped Indonesia, coached by Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert, to dream of a place in the 2026 finals, as well.
