ONE in four people have a special blood type that can help critically ill babies, the NHS revealed in an appeal for more donors.
Around three-quarters of adults carry a cytomegalovirus, which is harmless to them but can be fatal to newborns due to their underdeveloped immune systems.
The remaining quarter of donations are labelled with a blue NEO tag meaning the blood can safely be given to babies.
