'All prison staff should be wearing stab vests'

Stabbed ex-guard in appeal after Arena bomb plotter's jail attack

A FORMER prison officer who was brutally attacked by an inmate is campaigning for all jail staff to be given stab vests.

Claire Lewis, 50, spoke out after Manchester Arena bomb plotter Hashem Abedi, 28, stabbed and threw hot cooking oil on three staff at HMP Frankland.

In 2010, Claire was stabbed in the back at the County Durham jail by triple killer Kevan Thakrar.

The mum-of-two, of Washington, Tyne and Wear, was forced to retire due to her severe injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder.
