Relief for families as energy bills expected to fall by around £166 in the summer

- GRAHAM HISCOTT

A power of good

HOUSEHOLD energy bills are predicted to drop by an average £166 a year this summer.

Industry expert Cornwall Insight believes the price cap set by regulator Ofgem will fall nearly 9% in July.

It would reduce the typical annual household dual fuel bill to £1,683 from its current level of £1,849.

Cornwall Insight also estimates the cap will come down again - slightly - in October, and again next January.

Ofgem’s price cap sets the maximum amount suppliers can charge per unit of energy and applies to the vast majority of households.

It is reviewed four times a year and changes depending on supplier costs. The amount households pay depends on how much energy they use.
