ADOLPH Kuhn was 96 when he told the BBC about the day when, aged 20, and working as a mechanic for the US Navy in Pearl Harbor, he saw the attack.

He said: "Two sailors came along in a Model A Ford, and said, 'Get in, Mac, we're at war'. The bullets came down all around the car. Not a bullet hit us.
