How vehicle emission tests are cleaning the air you breathe

There's an allegation that some vehicles are deliberately failed during emission tests. What's your response to this?

If our goal was to do this purely as a business, the easiest way to profit would be to pass every vehicle that comes to us. That would attract more customers and increase our profits.

The truth is, we don’t decide whether a vehicle passes or fails. We use calibrated, accurate equipment and follow a strict, standardized procedure. The result depends entirely on the condition of the vehicle.

Also, when a vehicle fails, the owner receives two additional tests free of charge. So, deliberately failing vehicles would actually lead to losses for us.

How do you deal with malpractices that could happen during emission testing?

We've put several safeguards in place to keep malpractices as close to zero as possible. Currently, we operate 135 centres across the island, including mobile testing units, and all of these are equipped with CCTV cameras. We have a CCTV monitoring team that flags any suspicious activity.

We've also incorporated Artificial Intelligence into our system. Every vehicle that comes in for testing is photographed, and licence plates are scanned and recorded. This makes it nearly impossible for anyone to cheat the system by switching vehicles or using fake details.
