Attanayake grudges "president's expenditure head" by misreading history

Former MP Tissa Attanayake claimed that the proposed 2026 Appropriation Bill allocates an amount "higher than anything ever allocated in the country's history" for the President's expenditure head.

To check this FactCheck.lk claim, reviewed the allocations for the President's head in expenditure Appropriation Bills presented to Parliament over the past fifteen years (2011 to 2025), and compared them with the proposed allocation of LKR 11.385 billion for 2026.

It is generally the case that, because of inflation (including wage increases), expenditure on most budget heads is higher every year than the previous year, since the same goods and services cost more annually.
