Trinity lift Dialog Schools Rugby League after nearly four decades

THE 2025 Dialog Schools Rugby League, powered by Dialog Axiata PLC, concluded in grand fashion yesterday as Trinity College, Kandy, ended a 38-year title drought with a commanding and undefeated campaign. Ina season that renewed memories of the iconic 1987 team led by Tyrel Rajapakse, the Lions stamped their dominance on both legs of the tournament and lifted the coveted League title with pride.

Led by Safraz Usmaan, Trinity showcased a brand of rugby built on discipline, fitness, and flait. The title had remained elusive for nearly four decades, but this group of players, driven by belief and built on unity, finally brought it home in spectacular fashion.

Trinity's campaign began with a resounding 49-15 win over Sumangala, which set the tone for what was to come. They followed it up with an overwhelming 74-14 triumph over Vidyartha, a 48-19 victory against Thurstan, and a dominant 29-7 showing against a resilient St. Joseph's outfit. However, the statement performance came with a clinical 34-12 win over traditional rivals Royal College, a result that positioned Trinity as favourites heading into the second round.
