Pentax Medical-Certified Centre Marks a New Phase in Biomed International’s Service Capability

The goal is to supply and service medical equipment across public and private hospitals.Over more than three decades, the company has evolved from equipment distribution into service infrastructure. It is a journey built on a commitment to technical training and field-based engineering support. That shift in focus has enabled them to achieve success with the launch of Sri Lanka's first Pentax Medical-certified service centre on 07 November 2025.

The facility is the first of its kind in the country to deliver principal-level, manufacturer-certified endoscopy repairs locally. For Sri Lanka's hospital system, it represents a change in how complex endoscopy equipment is maintained. It reduces reliance on overseas repair facilities and strengthens service continuity under constrained operating conditions.

Pentax Medical is one of Biomed International's longstanding technology partners. Pentax endoscopy systems were first introduced to Sri Lanka in 1995 through a Ministry of Health tender, expanding access to modern endoscopy across public hospitals. As the installed base grew over time, service demands increased, particularly as systems were deployed beyond Colombo into regional hospitals.

An early indicator of this expansion came in 2002-2003, when a Pentax video endoscopy system was installed at a hospital in Badulla. The deployment marked a shift in how specialised diagnostic capability reached provincial settings and placed new expectations on service response outside major urban centres.
