Chaudhary Group strikes defiant note: 'They burnt our buildings, not our dreams’

LAST week, Nepal was rocked by its most violent upheaval in recent memory. What began last Monday as a self-styled “Gen Z protest” against corruption, nepotism, and a clampdown on social media, spiralled into nationwide chaos after security forces opened fire on crowds.
-

By Tuesday, protesters had torched parliament, the Supreme Court, Singha Durbar, and other Government offices, with homes of political leaders, police stations, schools, media outlets, and even Tribhuvan International Airport attacked. The Ministry of Health and Population and the National Health Emergency Operation Centre were reduced to rubble, hospitals remain overwhelmed, and the death toll continues to climb.
Beneath the violence lies a deeper story of economic stagnation, corruption, unemployment, and a widening gulf between ordinary citizens and political elites, with the social media ban acting as a trigger for a broader anti-corruption movement that toppled the Government. For Sri Lanka, the unrest in Nepal serves as a sobering reminder of shared vulnerabilities — and the urgent need for resilience, inclusive growth, and regional collaboration.
Hallmark of resilience and growth
One of the most notable is CG Corp Global, Nepal’s first and only multi-billion-dollar conglomerate. With a 140-year legacy across four generations, CG Corp Global has evolved into a multinational powerhouse with 261+ brands, 202 companies, and 20,000 employees across 32 countries. Its story of survival and global expansion speaks volumes at a time when nations like Nepal — and Sri Lanka — are in search of stability.
