West End lights to dim as Golden Globe winner who met love of life on stage dies at 95

TRIBUTES have been paid to Dame Joan Plowright after the screen and stage star died aged 95. The widow of Lord Laurence Olivier was known for her Golden Globe-winning performances in biopic Stalin and 1991 film Enchanted April, which also won her an Oscar nomination.
Dame Joan also starred in Love You To Death with River Phoenix, and acted in the West End and on Broadway before movie success.
West End lights will be dimmed in memory of the Olivier award-winning actress on Tuesday.
Her family said in a statement: It is with great sadness that the family of Dame Joan Plowright, the Lady Olivier, inform you that she passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025 surrounded by her family at Denville Hall.
