Welsh hero worn down by tragedy

WELSH footballer Terry Yorath picked up the first of 59 international caps in 1970 and remained a regular in the side for a decade, captaining his country 42 times.

He then went on to manage Wales during a highly successful five-year period from 1988 to 1993.Meanwhile at club level, Yorath played for Leeds United, Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, Vancouver Whitecaps, Bradford City and Swansea City.

As a player, Yorath was best known as a challenging defender and midfielder for Leeds United, whom he joined in 1967, after being scouted by Don Revie as a 15-year-old. He played in 28 matches during their famous 1973-74 championship-winning season and the following year in all eight of Leeds' European Cup games.
