RYDER CUP hopefuls Matt Fitzpatrick and Matt Wallace face a nervous wait to see if their strong showings at the Omega European Masters will be enough to earn them a place in the team.

Europe skipper Luke Donald, below, names his six captain’s picks today for the showdown with the USA at Bethpage Black at the end of the month.

The smart money is on Donald opting for experience to handle the hostile atmosphere that will await his team, as they attempt to retain the prize across the pond.

That would seem to play into Fitzpatrick’s hands, despite his record of eight matches played, one point earned.
