Ukraine may still get missiles

TRUMP KEEN ON DEAL TO SWAP TOMAHAWKS FOR DRONES

- By Matthew Dooley

DONALD TRUMP downplayed previous threats to provide Ukraine with US Tomahawk cruise missiles during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky last night.

When asked about the missiles, Trump told reporters at the White House: “Hopefully they won’t need them.”

However, the US President appeared interested when Zelensky suggested trading Ukrainian military drones for the missiles.

The Ukrainian leader said that while his country has thousands of military drones, they don’t have the strong missiles that the US makes and suggested both countries could work together for their military goals.

Trump, when asked if the US was interested in such a deal, said: “We are.” He added that drone warfare has “really come to the fore” over the past few years because of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ceasefire

During the lengthy press conference ahead of a lunch meeting, Trump also praised Vladimir Putin as “very generous” for complimenting him on the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, adding that the Russian president "said it was amazing".

Trump then again complained that he didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize this year, saying: “Somebody got it who’s a very nice woman.”

Despite his complaint, he insisted he was unbothered. He added: “I don’t care about all that stuff. I just care about saving lives.”

Trump also praised Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orbán, who earlier yesterday celebrated his country's role as host to the upcoming talks between Trump and Putin, where the two leaders are expected to discuss a resolution to the war in Ukraine.
