UK house prices keep rising ‘despite ongoing uncertainty’

HOUSE prices rose on average by 0.5% month-on-month in September despite a 0.1% fall in August, Nationwide Building Society said yesterday.

POSITIVE SIGNS: Values are rising

Property values increased by 2.2% annually — up from 2.1% yearly growth in August. Nationwide said across the UK the average house price in September was £271,995.

Robert Gardner, Nationwide’s chief economist, said: “Despite ongoing uncertainties in the global economy, underlying conditions for potential home buyers remain supportive. Providing the broader economic recovery is maintained, housing market activity is likely to strengthen gradually in the quarters ahead.”
