Trust's plea: Don't put coins in Causeway!

TOURISTS at the Giant's Causeway are being begged by the National Trust to stop a popular ritual at the World Heritage Site.

Coins wedged or even hammered into cracks in the world-famous basalt rock columns will cost the charity more than £30,000 to remove.

The NT is now appealing for people to stop it to protect the Northern Ireland landmark and to "leave no trace" during a visit.

Dr Cliff Henry, NT nature engagement officer at the Giant's Causeway, said: "We know visitors really love and cherish the Giant's Causeway and many form deep personal connections to this special landscape.
