THREE days after their New Year celebrations were brought to a horrifying and sudden halt, Crans-Montana fell silent again yesterday.

Town falls silent for those killed in Swiss bar inferno

Loved ones of those killed in the Le Constellation bar fire were among more than 2,000 mourners who joined a deliberately noiseless march through the streets of the Swiss ski resort. They took part in the emotional walk to the scene of the tragedy, which has left at least 40 dead and another 119 injured. There, they left flowers and candles at a growing shrine by the bar.

Young and old alike had set off on the short journey up the hill to the bar after attending a special mass at a nearby church, where Bishop Jean-Marie Lovey broke down in tears while leading the service.
